Fall Winter 2005-2006

The school year began late this year. It started in October. Rody and I were in America from August to October speaking about the ministry here and visiting friends and family. In September Bro. Charles Price and his wife Ruby had to return home because of Charles' health problems. We ask for your continued prayers for the both of them. They will not be returning to Romania because of this.

We started out with 8 second semester students and 10 new students. We were blessed with an American named George Lang who had decided to help us here at the school. George speaks excellent Romanian and has a heart for teaching. We also are beginning to see our vision realized as one of the students, a Pastor that has been with us for some time, began to help teach. Pastor Costel Deleu has committed himself to be a part of the training center here and to start new Bible studies and churches. We thank the Lord for answered prayer in this area. We would ask that you pray for Costel as the engine in his car has gone the way of the mammoth and he has no vehicle in which to get anywhere. He pastors a church 40 miles from his house and is involved in several other works located away from where he lives.

The students have been taking a wide variety of classes and subjects from Old and New Testaments surveys, preaching, the Book of Acts and discipleship materials such as Experiencing God and Your Church Experiencing God. Also materials such as Called and Accountable and Jesus on Leadership have been used as methods classes to give the students the opportunity to not only grow in their faith but to learn teaching techniques. Each student has an opportunity to preach and teach throughout the semester. Students are also encouraged to take what they learn and begin to apply it in their villages. Several new Bible studies have been started because of their commitment and enthusiasm to see God's kingdom grow.

Some students are picked up at the train station in Iasi, Romania on Tuesday morning while others drive from long distances to get to school. School begins at 11am on Tuesday morning and goes till 8pm Tuesday evening. We have an early chapel the next morning and classes start at 9am and finish up at 2pm. The students are then taken back to the train station. While at school they are fed meals and they are asked to donate money for some of their materials. Most are extremely poor and their transportation is paid for by us. We came here on faith and trust God to meet not only our needs but the needs of the school. God has been good through all of this. We praise His name.

The Fall months were pleasant. We enjoyed the fruits of God's blessing as many jars of jelly were put up to be used during the school year. We also had a good crop of Kentucky sweet corn and plenty of onions. Fall didn't last long enough. Winter came in December and hasn't left even as I write this in late March of 2006. It has been reported to be one of the coldest winters on record for the last 100 years. Temperatures plummeted to -15 below and stayed that way for several weeks. We have had several feet of snow throughout the winter with two feet falling the first part of March in 3 days.

It's difficult to describe life in a Romanian village and running a Bible training center at the same time during the winter. Cold, difficulties with freezing pipes, transporting people in frigid temperatures, vehicles not starting and the list could go on and on. We thank God for seeing us through all of it and continuing to see student's committed to what God has called them too.

We are excited here in Schitu Duca as God has sent several families to worship with us here on Sundays. Even through extremely cold weather and fierce winds 6 people continued to come. We have started another Bible study in another village 18 miles away and they also attend the new work here on Sundays, teaching Experiencing God and leading music. We are truly blessed with a mission pastor, Costel Rosu, who walks 3 miles over the hills and through the forest to minister in this village of Schitu Duca and surrounding villages. His wife also comes with him and weather permitting his five children who also make the walk. His wife Marianna helps with the cleaning and cooking during the two days of school each week. We are very blessed to have such a dedicated couple to help us.

For the spring we plan on having our first conference at the school on leadership in April. Pastors and church leaders will be invited to attend what we believe will be a God led event demonstrating more than ever the need for making disciples and training future church leaders. We also pray about God opening several more doors to villages in our area and in the areas where the students live. Part of our vision is to train people to train people. We believe that multiplication is the key to kingdom advancement. We did not come up with this idea. Jesus called for this in His Great Commission throughout the Gospels and again in Acts 1:8. Our great desire here is to be a part of what Jesus started 2000 years ago. A church planting movement that would go round the world.

We thank you for your continued prayers and support and ask that you continue to seek God's counsel in how you can pray for and continue to support His work here in Romania. May you be blessed as you bless.
