Nov. 2010Women on Mission

It truly is moving to see God work in the lives of the ladies at 10 Sticks and Scanteia. In 10 Sticks during November they got together and made parachutes. You might ask, “What does that have to missions?” Those chutes will be sent to Columbia where they will be used to drop radios and leaflets into villages where people can then hear the Gospel message. The group in 10 Sticks took up a small offering to help with the expense of getting the parachutes to the missionaries. Some of the young girls from the church came to the meeting and perhaps a young girls mission group can be started.

The Scanteia ladies talked about missions and Gal. 5:22-23. The group there is just beginning back after many years of not meeting. Pray for them and the church that God would again do a mighty work.

December 2010

December has been a great month for the ministry here. FBTC continues to equip men and women to be future leaders in their villages and churches through the classes offered. We have had preaching opportunities in 4 new churches where we have preached the Gospel and shared about the school and our ministry here.

We finished up on Disciples Cross class and continue teaching the other 4 Bible studies. We have taken a Dec. break and those classes will restart in Jan. 2011.

It is winter here in NE Romania and the temp. has dropped down into the teens and snow is on the ground. We thank the Lord that we got some new snow tires this season and those have enabled us to continue to travel to villages and teach and preach.

We did get a chance to go to Vala Mare, Moldova and promote the Disciples Cross and the starting of new small groups in several churches there. Pray for those believers in Moldova who even by Romanian standards are very poor.

Continued thanks for all those who continue to support and pray for our ministry here. If you would like to partner with us and help in any way it is always appreciated. But, more than just giving we continue to invite pastors and church leaders to come and experience a short term mission trip with us. Pray about that. You will be blessed through the sacrifices you make.
Thanks again. David & Rody Maynard, Missionaries to Romania

November 2010

Classes continue to go well at the school considering all the hardships our students face.
This last month we had 15 students and they took classes in: Old Testament; Church History; Bible Doctrines; Preaching; What God says about money & Jesus on Leadership.
Like many in our world today our students continue to face a variety of problems. Most of those problems have to do with the economy of Romania. However, despite overwhelming difficulties they continue to come, are excited about school and work hard while they are here.
We thank the Lord for our students and continue to thank the Lord for all those who continue to help and support the work here. We continue to look to the Lord for our provision and continue to pray that He would lay a burden on the hearts of more people and churches to partner with us in this ministry here.

We have had the opportunity to start five new Bible study classes this fall. We are traveling to Scanteia and 10 sticks to do the Disciples Cross and Witnessing Through Your Relationships. In Iasi we continue to do the Disciples Cross, the Book of John and Experiencing God. All total we have 36 students involved in these classes.

Summer 2010

Rody and I had a great time while we were in the states. We visited a lot with family and that was great. We also were able to visit friends and a number of churches throughout America. We had the chance to visit churches Ohio, Ky., Tenn, Colo. and Wis.
Rody and I also wanted to express our sincere appreciation and we consider it a privilege to share with others like yourself about how God is working and changing lives here in Romania. We want to thank you also for your prayers and the support that you helped us with. We understand the trying circumstances that many churches are going though today. Yet we believe in all our hearts that God wants His church to do more now than it has ever done. It requires much faith as we all step forward and work together for His kingdom purposes.

We would encourage people to pray about coming to Iasi, Ro. on a short term mission trip. God seems to work in hearts and lives in beautiful ways when we take time to go outside of our own comfort zone. If you are interested in more information and the best times to come please contact us here at the wed site or at my email address: roplanterman@yahoo.com

Pray for the school that will start 4 Oct and for all the preaching and teaching events that are planned. May God get all the glory. Thanks again David & Rody

January 2010
The New Year is upon us. 2009 came and went at light speed it seems. Again, Rody and I want to thank the Lord for laying it on hearts to pray and support the ministry here in NE Romania. School started back and we had 13 new students. That is truly amazing and we thank the Lord for it.

Mitica Barbu who had started out helping teach a class is now teaching "Experiencing God" by himself. There are a few that allows God to really transform their lives and Mitica is one of those people. He has 11 children, no running water in his home, no electric, no indoor toliet and functions on less that $250 a month. He is inspiring to all of us to say the least. His heart is in making disciples and reaching out to the lost. He is what our vision saw. Someone comes to the school here and goes back and begins to use what they have learned and from that new people come to the Lord and in turn some of them come to school here. Mitica has made this a reality. Pray for him and his family.

Our focus this year will be on FBTC, our students and our staff. We realize that times are tough and that many sacrifice so that we can continue to function here. We take that very seriously and want to be the best stewards of what God provides. He knows our needs and we ask Him to supply them as He sees best. We continue to work in the villages of Ursari near Negresti, 10 Sticks, Slobozia, Dallas. We have been asked by one of our teachers, Emil, to help get a new church started just outside of Iasi in a village called Mirosalva.

Rody has moved her ESL class to an apartment in town where it is warmer until Spring. Witnessing Though Your Relationships still continues in Slobozia even during the rough weather that we have had.

I had the opportunity to do a baby dedication in a little church in Iasi called the "Joy Club". It was a great time for mom and dad, the Lord was lifted up and He was given all the glory. I preach there once a month and most there are young people. Rody and I are the oldest, but they put us with us. They have started reaching out to some villages and hope to start some new Bible studies in the Spring.

Over the last few months the church at 10 Sticks has been visiting people in the village of Dagata (sounds like Da-gu-sta). This month they had their first meeting in a rented building and had 8 from the village attend. Each week they get together and had a Bible study from the Book of John. The church also helps some poor people in the village and the ladies at the church meet once a week for their mission study. The women are excited about being on mission with God. The church has been asked to come to several other villages and they are praying how God will provide for them to go. Pray for them and pray about helping in anyway you can.

We have been invited to go to Moldovia and speak with church leaders their about teaching, equipping and making disciples. We wait upon the Lord for direction and plan on going in February.
Well, let's get updated about what took place over the fall semester in Schitua Duca, Romania at Faith Bible Training Center. While we visited America and thanked friends and churches for their continued prayers and support and visited family, the staff at FBTC had several things done at the building. Construction projects to finish the hallway, several rooms were redone and painted, a new board floor in the upstairs will help during the cold winter months and a number of aesthetic projects were completed. It was great to know that we could take off and things would be taken care of during our absence. God truly has sent committed people to help in His work here at Schitu Duca.

September
Back from America after only a week and we hosted a conference on solving conflict. During the 2 day event 15 people attended and left, hopefully having a better understanding on how to deal with conflict in the church and in their lives the way God has set it up.

Rody and Marcela (our translator and school administrator) set up and hosted a 2 day event that equipped people in Bible drills. Twelve people representing five different churches participated. The training involved teaching people how to learn the books of the Bible, Bible drills and scripture memorization. The training also included how to prepare lesson plans and they learned the basics on how to study the Bible. They also had the opportunity to speak to 39 more women from 7 different churhes and encouraged them to get involved in missions.

October
This month involved the publication of the 2nd Women's Mission Magazine. If you would like a copy each month in English please contact us and we will be happy to send you one. The magazine featured Nicu Bumbu. A Romanian missionary working in small villages about 3 hours from Iasi. He has a great heart for ministry and works in many villages sharing the gospel message. Pray for him he has 11 children and not alot of support. The magazine also has articles from around the world, local missions articles, prayer calendar, a discipleship section and much more. Rody and Marcela go monthly to several churches helping them get started and organized.

We had the privilege to see nine people come to the Lord in Oct. as we visited several villages. One of the villages is located near Iasi and is called Dallas (like the TV show except this Dallas is super poor instead of super rich). It was there that we witnessed two men come to the Lord. Both had a plan to make decisions for Christ. One thought he had to change his life first and the other one thought he had to be in church in order to find Jesus. Both soon learned that you could find Jesus anywhere and that He would accept them just as they were. They were elated to hear this and both made decisions right then to follow Christ. Follow up is still taking place and each week one of the teachers from our school goes and helps them and does a Bible study.

Rody began English as a second language at 3rd Baptist in Iasi and I started a home Bible study in Slobozia with a bunch of people on "Witnessing Through Your Relationships". I continue to preach weekly in a variety of churches as God provides the opportunities.

School started back this month and we had 14 students return from the Spring semester and added 10 new students. We praise th Lord for that and continue to be in awe at how God provides new students from a variety of places. 7 of the returning students will graduate in the Spring of 2010. The new students began by studying "How to Study Your Bible", and "Experiencing God". The returning students began their course work in Bible Doctrines and the "Disciples Cross". We added a new part time discipleship teacher, Mitica Barbu, who is a graduate of the school here and has proven himself to be a great discipler. Pray for him as he begins new Bible studies in his village of Slobiza.

November
November was a month filled with people from America who came on short term mission trips. One of our supporting churches, Unity Baptist in Blaine, Ky. sent Chris. He gave his testimony in several churches, helped teach a discipleship class at FBTC and was a great help is splitting and stacking wood and pouring concrete for a new driveway section. From our home church in Louisa we had a surprise visit from my mother, Marie Maynard, and she was accompanied by Callie Baker from Olive Hill FBC. Chris, mom and Callie all had a great time and were of much help as we plugged them into what we were already doing. The ladies got to visit 7 churches and we spent one night in the village of 10 sticks. Then at the end of Nov. we had Billy and Janice Williams from Blaine, Ky visit us. They had just returned from a month long stay in Israel and we had a great fellowship time with them. If you would be interested in coming and participating in a short term mission trip with us please contact us.

The financial crisis is worldwide that is for sure. Our students (mainly gypsies) are already at the bottom of the economic ladder here in Romania and for them things just have continued to get worse financially. The Lord has provided us with opportunities to help and we do so as He provides the means with which to do it. We help some of them get to school by paying for their transportation and trade work here at FBTC for their semester fees. Those fees are only $12 a semester, yet for many of our students this is even more than they can handle.

December
This month saw the arrival of winter with snow and cold weather. School continued to go well. Through the love of one of the churches in America we were able to buy 50 pair of winter boots for the children in several villages. These are given out to the children by the churches. We were also glad to help several churches give out bags with bananas, oranges, candy bars, a small toy for the children, socks, gloves and some Christian literature. The Fall here was full of God's grace and mercy as He watched over us as we traveled and He provided for us and our needs. We continue to pray for His will to be done in the upcoming new year. We will start January classes the mid part of that month and will offer new classes.
