As You Go Ministries August 2009

Rody and I just wanted to let everyone know we had a great time in America for a couple of months and so much appreciated the prayers and support of everyone. We arrived back in Romania the 25th of Aug and are ready to get back to work. Starting on the 1st of Sept we will have a number of people come to Faith Bible training Center and begin to equip them to teach children and young people Bible training drills. Our goal is that God's Word be learned and memorized early on. We also will host a conference on Sept. 11 and 12 at Faith Bible Training Center on how to Solve Conflict in the Church, God's way. Then our adult Bible Training classes begin the first week in Oct. Thanks again for all the great visits we had while home. David & Rody Maynard

Fall 2008

To the churches and all those that have prayed for and supported Rody and I in the ministry here in Romania we wish to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Without God's people abiding in Christ and working together, praying together and supporting each other, little can be accomplished in His Kingdom. We would like to let you know that we too have prayed for you and appreciate the sacrifice that many have made so that we could continue the work God has called us to do.

We would like to share what we have been doing during the fall of 2008. We had 11 students return to the school here at Schitu Duca and 5 of them were women. Two of those students graduated this December after 2 1/2 years of study, coming two days a week. We now have 3 Romanian teachers, all graduates themselves of Romanian seminaries and two American's. We have a secretary who also fuctions as a translator and school administator. We have a fine Christian women as our cook. God has been so good to send great people into our lives here and we love and appreciate them much.

We have had the opportunity to teach and preach several times in the countries of Moldova and The Ukraine. Our times there have been used in equipping church leaders in how to make disciples, teaching methods and how to set up and start children's ministries. God has allowed us to meet and make new friends from around the world as He continues to open up doors of opportunity that allows us to fullfill His great commandment to go and make disciples.

It has been a priviledge to watch God work in the lives of so many. All of our students are involved in some form of ministry in their villages or cities. One of our graduates began to work in his village and God sent over 20 people to get involved in an Experiencing God class. 4 of those students will begin studying at the school this coming January. Others are involved in church planting, teaching and starting new Bible studies. Many of you know the village of 10 Sticks. They are involved in working in 3 new villages. We work with them at least once a month outside of the school setting teaching practical aspects of ministry is such things as preaching, conflict resolution, children's ministry and discipleship making.

God put us in the path of a church planter this fall who is excited about putting together a church planting team and using them to not only start new works but use them to teach church planting methods and principles. He is involved in working in 7 villages and we hope to move into at least 7 other villages who have never heard the gospel message.

Rody has been teaching and equipping women on how to put together children's programs and how to organize those programs. She has also been in teaching English as a Second Language in one of the churches in downtown Iasi. She is coming home to the states for several months starting in January to be there when our first grandbaby is born. She will not only be changing diapers but will also be visiting some of the local churches and giving first hand information on what God is doing here in Romania.

Life for all of us has its moments of difficulties and this is true even for us. Rody has been in the hosptial twice this fall for kidney stone troubles and we praise the Lord that she was able to be in a good hospital with people who cared. When she returns here she will again have to go back for more treatment. We thank you for all the prayers during these difficult times.

Our time on Sundays have been spent generally promoting the school in a variety of churches. I was invited to preach at the Association of Churches located in Bacu, Romania in October of this year and several of those churches invited us to come to their churches. Because of that effort the Lord has called several men and women to come and start school in Jan 2009. We have also spent time at the Tabara church, 2nd and 3rd Baptist churches in Iasi and in 10 sticks church and the House of Joy church in Iasi.

We enjoy and look forward to emails from people back home and it is never an inconvience for us to share in your hurts, joys and things that go on in your life back home. Our email addresses are:

Rody's email is rodyjayne@yahoo.com
David's email is roplanterman@yahoo.com

We will also be updating the web site located at www. romissions.org and will be making the site available in Romania in this coming spring.

We again thank you for your continued commitment to the great commisson through your prayers and giving. May we all grow more towards the full maturity in Christ in 2009.

God bless and take care Your missionaries in Romania

Spring-Summer 2006

The first semester of school here at Schitu Duca started in January of 2005. Much hard work had been spent on preparing the building to be used as a Bible training center. When school started there were dorms for the students to stay in, a cafeteria to feed them, inside and outside bathrooms, a fine kitchen to prepare meals, an classrooms to teach in, a computer room and library to use for a variety of things and 10 new excited students to start with.

The students started with a survey of the Old Testament and How to Study Their Bibles along with Experiencing God and English as a second language. Much was learned during this semester and much will be learned in the semesters to come.

Spring came and classes ended around the end of April. Time was spent throughout the spring and summer in the village of Scinosh working with children and training women to teach young children. We pray that within the next year a church will be started in this village and land can be obtained to put up a new building. Other villages visited during that time were Slobozia, Ten Sticks, Podurine, Osoi and others.

It was also a time when visiting churches came on short term mission projects. These teams were a rich blessing to us as they continued work on the building, visited and preached in the villages and the team from FBC Louisa, Kentucky were here as we launched our first music get together at the school. Churches from the area participated in the music and the youth from FBC were a great addition to that event.

Construction continued during the summer to put on a new roof at the school. Buddy Fraizer and his wife Elaine from Cherryville Baptist church came for 1 month, donating their time and energy to help complete this project. Words cannot express how much they were appreciated along with all the others that took part.

We appreciate the following churches for being a part our ministry this year. FBC Louisa for coming and bringing construction people and youth. Also on that trip was several from FBC South Point Ohio. Also Vengeance Creek Baptist church from North Carolina and John Parker and several from his church in Georgia. MidValley Baptist from Carbondale, Colo. sent a great group of men who helped with construction at the school and helped teach several classes. Also we want to thank Bethel Baptist Church from Frederick, Oklahoma for sending their pastor, Roland Benkie. Roland was the first church planter God put in my path many years ago and it was good to have him with us on the field in Romania.

Many changes have taken place within the last six months and many more will take place in the future. We pray that God continues to give us wisdom in all the areas that we need to focus on.

Fall Winter 2005-2006

The school year began late this year. It started in October. Rody and I were in America from August to October speaking about the ministry here and visiting friends and family. In September Bro. Charles Price and his wife Ruby had to return home because of Charles' health problems. We ask for your continued prayers for the both of them. They will not be returning to Romania because of this.

We started out with 8 second semester students and 10 new students. We were blessed with an American named George Lang who had decided to help us here at the school. George speaks excellent Romanian and has a heart for teaching. We also are beginning to see our vision realized as one of the students, a Pastor that has been with us for some time, began to help teach. Pastor Costel Deleu has committed himself to be a part of the training center here and to start new Bible studies and churches. We thank the Lord for answered prayer in this area. We would ask that you pray for Costel as the engine in his car has gone the way of the mammoth and he has no vehicle in which to get anywhere. He pastors a church 40 miles from his house and is involved in several other works located away from where he lives.

The students have been taking a wide variety of classes and subjects from Old and New Testaments surveys, preaching, the Book of Acts and discipleship materials such as Experiencing God and Your Church Experiencing God. Also materials such as Called and Accountable and Jesus on Leadership have been used as methods classes to give the students the opportunity to not only grow in their faith but to learn teaching techniques. Each student has an opportunity to preach and teach throughout the semester. Students are also encouraged to take what they learn and begin to apply it in their villages. Several new Bible studies have been started because of their commitment and enthusiasm to see God's kingdom grow.

Some students are picked up at the train station in Iasi, Romania on Tuesday morning while others drive from long distances to get to school. School begins at 11am on Tuesday morning and goes till 8pm Tuesday evening. We have an early chapel the next morning and classes start at 9am and finish up at 2pm. The students are then taken back to the train station. While at school they are fed meals and they are asked to donate money for some of their materials. Most are extremely poor and their transportation is paid for by us. We came here on faith and trust God to meet not only our needs but the needs of the school. God has been good through all of this. We praise His name.

The Fall months were pleasant. We enjoyed the fruits of God's blessing as many jars of jelly were put up to be used during the school year. We also had a good crop of Kentucky sweet corn and plenty of onions. Fall didn't last long enough. Winter came in December and hasn't left even as I write this in late March of 2006. It has been reported to be one of the coldest winters on record for the last 100 years. Temperatures plummeted to -15 below and stayed that way for several weeks. We have had several feet of snow throughout the winter with two feet falling the first part of March in 3 days.

It's difficult to describe life in a Romanian village and running a Bible training center at the same time during the winter. Cold, difficulties with freezing pipes, transporting people in frigid temperatures, vehicles not starting and the list could go on and on. We thank God for seeing us through all of it and continuing to see student's committed to what God has called them too.

We are excited here in Schitu Duca as God has sent several families to worship with us here on Sundays. Even through extremely cold weather and fierce winds 6 people continued to come. We have started another Bible study in another village 18 miles away and they also attend the new work here on Sundays, teaching Experiencing God and leading music. We are truly blessed with a mission pastor, Costel Rosu, who walks 3 miles over the hills and through the forest to minister in this village of Schitu Duca and surrounding villages. His wife also comes with him and weather permitting his five children who also make the walk. His wife Marianna helps with the cleaning and cooking during the two days of school each week. We are very blessed to have such a dedicated couple to help us.

For the spring we plan on having our first conference at the school on leadership in April. Pastors and church leaders will be invited to attend what we believe will be a God led event demonstrating more than ever the need for making disciples and training future church leaders. We also pray about God opening several more doors to villages in our area and in the areas where the students live. Part of our vision is to train people to train people. We believe that multiplication is the key to kingdom advancement. We did not come up with this idea. Jesus called for this in His Great Commission throughout the Gospels and again in Acts 1:8. Our great desire here is to be a part of what Jesus started 2000 years ago. A church planting movement that would go round the world.

We thank you for your continued prayers and support and ask that you continue to seek God's counsel in how you can pray for and continue to support His work here in Romania. May you be blessed as you bless.

As We Go in Romania

The new year started out with Faith Bible College on our hearts and in our minds. It is a whole new adventure in ministry for all of us here. We had lots of questions but with few answers until we got started. January 11th was the big day. We began to register students that week and began classes formally on the 18th of January. We have 18 students that attend classes at Schitu Duca on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and another 6 Wednesday night students that attend at the Dacia church.

We have four courses being taught at Schitu Duca. Course #1 is on "How to Study the Bible", Course #2 "Old Testament Survey", Course #3 "Book of Acts", & Course #4 is a teaching methods class using "Experiencing God". Only courses 1 & 2 are being taught at Dacia. The students come from as far away as Ten Sticks (a gypsy village) which is about 75 miles away and from another gypsy village named Solbozia which is about 32 miles away. We also have students from Negresti and Iasi.

The students are hungry for sound Biblical teaching. We have chapel services each day and everyone gets a chance to do the preaching in these services. We even have guest speakers as they become available. Our vision is not just to equip through study only but equip through practical experience. Two of the students have started a Bible study in Schitu Duca and both teach and preach every Sunday. Others students are also involved in ministry in their villages.

Students are encouraged and are beginning to be taught how to see where God is working and how to join Him as He works through them to accomplish His will. The students are excited about this and we have encouraged pastors to begin to write newsletter articles that will help you get to know some of them. We are grateful for the two translators Roxanna and George who help us in the classes and for Charles Maynard for getting and keeping the web site up and running.

What's it like to start a college at the ground level? Materials have to be gathered for student courses (we use Bible Training Center for Pastors and Leaders) for Courses #1 & #2. This material is already in Romanian and works very well in the classroom. Student transportation costs, book expenses plus lots of Xerox aids, accommodations for overnight stays, food for students and staff (4 meals are fixed weekly by Ruby and Rody), utilities, bottled gas for heat, gas for vehicles and putting a web site up were some of the things that had to be considered as we began this God sized assignment of equipping national leaders for church leadership here in Romania.

You can begin to get a picture of the logistics of starting what God has called us to do. This is no small assignment and we depend on the Lord for all our needs. Our prayer is that the Lord will touch many hearts in many ways to help in His work here. We pray that He will lay it on peoples' hearts to pray for this work. We pray that He will touch hearts to give because much financial aid is needed and the Lord will lead many others to co-operate in many others ways to help accomplish what He has set before us.

We were thankful for the extremely nice weather we had in December and January but it finally did snow and turn cold. We thank the Lord for all He provides and for all He allows us to go through as we serve Him in Iasi, Romania.

Catch the Vision
It's great to know that we're in the last days. We know because Dr. Luke wrote to us as he did the early church and told us what Joel had predicted. Acts 2:17-21 In those days people will have visions, dream dreams and watch as God pours out His Spirit.

Do you have vision of what God is or wants to do in your life this coming year? Our vision is to see God's kingdom expanded. You can be a big part of that vision. We need your prayers as God works and we join Him in what He's doing in Northeast Romania.

Become a Prayer Partner
Commit to join us in prayer this year. Just email us on the web site and we will keep you updated with new prayer requests and how God answers those prayers.

Women's & Children's Ministries

Consistency and perserverance are the words! We have been meeting with 2 group of women at Scanteia and Tabara Churches for several months. They are learning about missionaries, praying for missionaries, and being introduced to how to be a missionary in their own villages. The teenage girls have joined us in these meetings and bring excitement and imagination to them.

The children are busy at Schitu Duca in a new Sunday School Class and we were able to help with Christmas gift bags at 4 churches and 2 beginning works. Looking forward to beginning 2 womens bible studies and continuing to grow the childrens ministry through Sunday School. Please pray for God to raise up leaders among these women and teenagers to continue in these works.
